Spiritual Health – Practical Tips for a Healthy Spiritual Living!

Should you be at all concerned with your health, when on the Way to Realization?
After all, it was Nisargadatta Maharaj said: “It is not important that one lives long.” And he is not alone; plethora of Enlightened Masters holds the same view, which boils down to this: your body is a part of the illusion veiled by consciousness, and should be ignored.
Whilst the above statement rings true to the advanced spiritual seeker, those at the lower level of awareness need to adopt a more “personal” approach. Why? Because they still need their bodies to get them to those lofty levels of intuitive knowledge where only the Absolute is…

That’s why it is my intention to, finally, write something of a really practical nature. Right from the outset, two sayings come to mind:

  • “You are what you eat” and
  • “In a healthy body, healthy mind dwells.”

It is quite obvious, that as there is good and bad nourishment for your body, as stipulated by various kinds of diets, those involved with spirituality should follow a more specific directions. I call it “spiritual diet.”
In other words, eat what is beneficial to your health AND to your mind. For it is your mind that will take you beyond the mind and unless you make sure it is up to the task, it won’t happen… at least in this lifetime.

There are few generalities:

  1. Eat healthy (by the general consensus) food only. If in doubt, ask your grandmother.
  2. Do not overindulge, eat only when hungry.
  3. Try to switch off your senses when eating: avoid the sensation of “salivating.”
  4. Try to concentrate on consuming foods containing elements beneficial to your mental health.
  5. Have your long-term health in perspective; use prevention, so that you won’t be overwhelmed in seeking cures… when it’s too late.

As we live in the age of discovery, even you – as a spiritual practitioner, cannot afford not to keep abreast of the latest developments and discoveries on the health scene. When found, try to adapt them to your individual needs; and not, I’m not talking about enthusiastically trying the latest antiaging creme on. There are many highly beneficial substances, not only from the natural health dispensary, that are either forgotten, or more probably, blocked from you by the commercial interests of the big pharma. One example: when everybody runs scared of the cancer, very few people know about the critical importance of vitamin B17.
Yes, you owe to maintain your wellbeing till the day when you know you don’t need to live anymore.
For then, you know you are THAT.
