Growing Spiritually – Where I Am Now

The title is very presumptuous; how do I know that I am growing spiritually?
Can the fact that many books were read, many videos and tapes were watched and listened to, many hours were spent trying to meditate, even be to my credit? Or, was it all some “warm hearted” posturing and a newly found passion, not unlike a learning of another language, or a new hobby?
All the masters say is never be preoccupied with the results. Never desire “good” outcomes. Just practice the best way you can, with a heartfelt intention, and leave the Absolute to do the rest.

Besides, what does “spiritual” mean? Surely, many different things depending on where you live, your age and education, whom you ask, your religious background or a lack of thereof…
Perhaps, that’s why Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj said: “Spirituality is like dishwater to me; sooner or later to be discarded.” Yes, it is a descriptive word for something that is time-related and hence temporary. Why should I or anybody else for that matter, care about things that are impermanent?

My journey begun in December 2007 after reading a book by Dr David R. Hawkins “Power vs. Force.” This and all the books he had written, and recordings of his seminars, were my map, and my fuel storage. They still are. There were other boosts of energy coming from watching the film “Into Great Silence” by Philip Groning, or reading the book by Sogyal Rinpoche, titled “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.”
Lately, a new plane has been discovered in the teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. NetiNeti’s video, narrated by Dr Stephen Wolinsky and titled “Consciousness and Beyond” beautifully blends with Dr Hawkins’ teachings and gives them new power.

Finally, time to make the journey real and go away, to bathe in the source. God willing, my short trip to the US in October 2009, to attend Dr Hawkins’ seminar “Success”, will be my guiding post and a will power me in moments when no rays of light break the soul’s darkness. Knowing that God loves me makes me fearless.
