Push or Pull – What Works Better For Your Spiritual Progress?
How are you stimulating your spiritual progress? Do you pull or do you push? In other words, are you finding it more effective to push your current level of consciousness up, or assume the higher (than where you consider yourself to be) ground and pull yourself to the higher level?
My vote goes to the latter. Why? Because you already are THAT!
You already have got the highest title: the Absolute.
It is only through your obtuseness, spiritual mediocrity, or whatever else you want to call it, that you pretend otherwise. Sadly, you concentrate on playing a “human” from birth to death. You make grandiose plans, and then feel cheated by the destiny when they fail to fruit. Listen to Ramana Maharshi: “In accordance with the parabdha of each, the One whose function it is to ordain makes each to act. What will not happen will never happen, whatever effort one may put forth. And what will happen will not fail to happen, however much one may seek to prevent it. This is certain. The part of wisdom therefore is to stay quiet.”
Still, it’s up to you whether you’ll choose to push or to pull to gain higher spiritual knowledge. Choosing to pull gives you the sense of achieving more and faster – you’re assuming the higher ground right from the outset. No, there’s no self-deception involved; you know you already have the highest title. Spiritual progress is measured only by your decision as to how fast you’ll discard the veils of illusion and ignorance. Yes, this is not your fault – you were dressed in the greatest of them: “I Amness” right from the start, and acquired many more through the life “education.”
Said Nisargadatta Maharaj: ‘The knowledge “I Am” is the first ignorance and whatever knowledge you acquire with it is ignorance.’
As you pull yourself up higher and your level of awareness grows, you’ll begin to demolish these concepts one by one, finally destroying the one that started it all: “I Am”. Indeed, with your existence rooted in the Absolute, you don’t need the sense of awareness of “I Am”, to realize that you already are THAT that you want to become. Then, it’s all over.
You are merged with that greater fire which ignited the spark…
